Fun workout ideas for people who don’t like the gym

If you’re anything like me, chances are you absolutely hate the gym. The thought of working out on machinery or pumping weights, in front of a load of other (probably fitter) people sounds like hell on earth. Right? I’m glad I’m not the only one! However, that doesn’t mean you should just avoid exercise altogether. In fact, there are plenty of awesome ways to get a good workout without having to step foot inside here a gym. Here are three of them!

Dance or aerobics

As Taylor Swift said, sometimes you’ve got to shake it off. Dancing or aerobics classes are easily one of the most fun ways to workout without having to go to the gym. There are plenty of different styles to choose from such as classic, modern, tap, Zumba, aerial hoop, and even burlesque! The best thing about this kind of exercise class is that you’ll find something that suits your personality, so it won’t ever really feel like you’re working out. You’ll just be meeting new people, having a lot of fun, and burning calories in the process. If you’re worried about joining a class like this, then consider bringing a friend along with you. A lot of classes have offers and promotions that encourage you to bring someone with you, such as the first class free. Give it a go and shake off the day’s tensions – you might be surprised at how much you enjoy it.

Swimming

This is easily one of the best exercises in the world for an all-over workout – plus, it’s another one that doesn’t really feel like you’re exercising. If you’re lucky enough to live by the coast, consider waking up a little earlier and starting your day with a swim. That’s the dream! However, make sure that the waters are safe before you start doing lengths of the beach. If you don’t live near the sea, then find your local swimming pool. After work and weekends tend to be the busiest times, so avoid these if you don’t want to bump into anyone wearing your swimwear. And if you are nervous about what you might look like or not doing things quite right, remember this. People are concentrating on their own swim, they’re not even going to notice you (unless you’re doing something silly like diving in the shallow end). You’re also going to spend most of the time with your body underwater, so it’s perfect for those who have body hangups.

Youtube videos

Finally, if the thought of exercising outside the house fills you with fear then consider some home workouts. There are so many Youtube videos out there that will show you how to get a good workout without any equipment and with very little space. A popular choice is HIIT workouts (high-intensity interval training) by people such as The Body Coach. These only take 15-20 minutes in most cases but will give you some great results. The 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels is also another excellent workout video that doesn’t need a lot of time, requires no equipment, and will give you some great results. Just clear some space in a room, put on the video, and start burning those calories.
