Last year, Manchester United endured a lengthy transfer saga relating to David de Gea, but with the arrival of Jose Mourinho it should ensure that he stays with the club. Despite the concerns regarding the future of his friend Juan Mata’s, David de Gea has indicated that he will definitely stay under the new leadership of Mourinho. It was only suggested last week that De Gea spoke out about how extremely frustrated he was with life at Manchester United under Van Gaal, and that he would definitely be looking to move if the Dutchman was still in charge by the summer.
The Manchester Evening Sport suggests that De Gea is very focused on building a far better relationship with Mourinho than the one he had with Louis Van Gaal. It was suggested that De Gea would have been looking for a transfer if Van Gaal remained as the manager particularly when he excluded De Gea from the first six matches. However, he is really devoted to making things work at Manchester United under his fourth manager in just five years.
De Gea now 25, is represented by Jorge Mendes who is Mourinho’s agent and has spent time negotiating the personal terms of Mourinho move to Manchester United from Chelsea. Other clients that are represented by Mendes include Radamel Falcao and Angel di Maria who have both signed for Manchester United in recent years. Mendes was also responsible for overseeing the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, Anderson, Bebe and Nani to Manchester United, but De Gea is the only client that he has in the current Manchester United squad.
Mata, a close friend of De Gea is understood to have no problems with Mourinho joining as manager, this is of course unless he decides to create problems and there has certainly been a lot of history between Mata and Mourinho in the past. Mata was the player of the year at Chelsea for his first two seasons, prior to Mourinho returning in 2013. When Mata was substituted in the 53rd minute in his last Chelsea game against Southampton in January 2014, he reacted angrily and three weeks later signed for Manchester United for a reported £37.1 million.
Although Mata is really happy at Manchester United, the 28-year-old was left out of the 2016 Spain Euro squad and he has made no attempt to hide the fact that he was hoping that Manchester United would look at an alternative manager to Jose Mourinho, however this is not to be the case.
It is true that Mourinho disregarded Mata when he went about restructuring the players that made up the backbone of the Chelsea team. Both Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic joined Chelsea in 2014, and the striker Diego Costa was brought from Atletico Madrid as Chelsea progressed and won their third Premier League title under the management and guidance of Jose Mourinho.
No matter what happens the departure of Louis van Gaal is definitely good news for the Manchester United fans who are all hopeful, if not even desperate for David De Gea to stay!
